HTN (High Twisted Nematic) nematic liquid crystal molecules are sandwiched between two pieces of transparent glass. Between the two layers of glass, the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules is deflected by 110 to 130 degrees. The characteristics of this type of LCD are high contrast, low power consumption, low driving voltage, and insufficient dynamic driving performance, but the viewing angle is wider than that of the TN type.

 

STN (SuperTwistedNematic) uses an electric field to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules that were originally twisted by more than 180 degrees to change the optical rotation state. The external electric field changes the electric field through line-by-line scanning. In the process of the electric field repeatedly changing the voltage, the recovery process of each point Slower, resulting in afterglow. Its advantage is low power consumption and the biggest advantage of power saving.

 

The display principle of color STN is to add a color filter to the traditional monochrome STN liquid crystal display, and divide each pixel in the monochrome display matrix into three sub-pixels, which display red, green and blue through the color filter respectively. The base color can display a color picture. Different from TFT, STN is a passive Passive LCD, which can generally display up to 65536 colors.

 

Classification: Mainly divided into ordinary STN, FSTN, CSTN and DSTN.

 

Ordinary STN means that the liquid crystal rotates 180~270 degrees in the LCD screen, and ordinary polarizers are attached to the upper and lower sides of the LCD screen. Due to dispersion, the background color of the LCD screen will show a certain color, the most common ones are yellow-green or blue, which is commonly called Yellow-green mold or blue mold.

 

FSTN (Film+STN), in order to improve the background color problem of ordinary STN, a compensation film is added to the polarizer to eliminate dispersion and achieve black and white display.

 

CSTN (ColorSTN), color STN, is based on FSTN technology and adds a layer of RGB color film to achieve color display. Generally, the number of drive channels is high.

 

DSTN (DoubleSTN), a double-layer STN, one layer is used as a driving layer and the other layer is used as a compensation layer. It belongs to STN black and white technology. Compared with FSTN, it has higher contrast and can compensate for dispersion with temperature to achieve a wide temperature range. high contrast.

 

VA panel is a type of panel that is widely used in high-end LCD applications, and it is a wide viewing angle panel. Compared with TN panels, 8-bit panels can provide 16.7M colors and large viewing angles, which are the capital of high-end positioning of this type of panels, but the price is also more expensive than TN panels. VA panels can be divided into MVA led by Fujitsu Panel and PVA panel developed by Samsung, the latter is the inheritance and improvement of the former. VA panels have the highest contrast from the front (face view), but the uniformity of the screen is not good enough, and color drift often occurs. Sharp text is its trump card, and the black-and-white contrast ratio is pretty high.
